Precision Training Academy is a registered business name of Law Enforcement & Security Training Australia Pty Ltd. Our goal is to make sure that all students trained to be workforce ready, with the skills and attributes desirable for future employers and organisations. Precision Training Academy is a leading provider of Security Training for the Hunter Region and throughout New South Wales, as an approved provider with Security Licensing Enforcement Directorate (SLED).
Our Local Trainers and Assessors
At Precision Training Academy our Trainers and Assessors are fully qualified and licensed for all courses being delivered on our scope of registration.
All of our courses are regularly updated and revised, ensuring they comply with the latest regulatory and industry standards.
Sonya and Darren are also qualified firearm instructors and maintain their currency of security industry experience with Precision Protection Group.
Sonya Pritchard and Darren Upson are also the proprietors of Precision Protection Group, a local Newcastle based security company which is a fully qualified, licensed and experienced company.
Precision Training Academy is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) approved by the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA), our RTO Code is 31555, details of our organisation can be found on training.gov.au.
Your SLED Approved Training Instructors
SONYA PRITCHARD
Sonya has been in the industry since 2006. She has worked with some of the large security companies and performed roles such as Armed Road Crew, Crowd Control, Firearms Training as a Firearms Instructor and Risk Assessor.
Sonya continues to actively work in the Security Industry and is a Director of Precision Protection Group.
Her experience of the security industry has aspired her to become a Trainer Assessor and share her knowledge. In 2020 Sonya became a qualified Approved Trainer by SLED (Security Licensing & Enforcement Directorate) delivering approved Security Licence Courses. Sonya has served on the SLED Consultation Committee and was currently elected to the SLED Advisory Council. In 2024 Sonya became the CEO of LESTA trading as Precision Training Academy and is very passionate about training and sharing her vast experience.
DARREN UPSON
Darren has been in the security industry since 1993. He has also worked for some of the large security companies and worked in the roles as Armed Road Crew, Risk Security Officer, and Risk Assessor. His love for firearms bought him to training and teaching for Hunter Firearms Academy (HFA) until the retirement of David Jones. Darren is a Director of Precision Protection Group and is very passionate about safety and compliance training.
Darren is a qualified Approved Trainer by SLED, he has served on the SLED Consultation Committee and is very driven to provide his experience in the security industry which he is still current. His years of extensive experience to share in class, in all aspects of security, have been enjoyed by many students through his teaching career.
TODD CHAPMAN
Todd has been in the security industry since 1998. He has specialised in the armoured car industry (cash in transit) providing both armed/unarmed overt and covert roles as roadcrew.
He was an RSO (Random Security Officer) for one of the major armoured car companies providing extra protection at high-risk sites maintaining safety to his co-workers and clients.
Todd also brings experience in airport security passenger screening during his time at Sydney Airport and specialises in first aid training.
He has thrown himself into the Vocational Training and Education role bringing a wealth of knowledge and skills to Precision Training Academy.
